Live streaming and Rockstar Film Company

Recently Rockstar Film Company was in beautiful Glendale California to shoot the wedding for Nate and Sherry. Part of the job was to stream the wedding for people on the East Coast, and elsewhere to see the wedding. We received some feedback that I would like to address.

The reason why you see news trucks with gigantic satellites atop them, as well as communication towers to stream it, is because it is extremely difficult to stream live and also expensive.

For the wedding, we came up with an idea of streaming the video feed to our website via an iPhone 4 with HD video capabilities* with was an amazing and cheap solution and the fact that we could stream it for individuals elsewhere in the world was revolutionary.

No wedding videographers at the moment offer streaming unless you pay a great deal of money because of the reasons listed. Though we came up with an awesome way of live streaming the wedding, it did turn out to be quite a feat.

Example:
For the wedding we had to hard wire the church from an office 300 ft away with an ethernet cable. From there we had to create a Wireless network with a device from scratch, then go back and tape down the entire 300ft of wire for safety. All within about 15 minutes. We also had to move the stationary camera to follow the ceremony which started at the front of the church while also filming with 2 other cameras. This, we are proud to have accomplished.

*Here are some details to know about the Live Streaming:
-HD is not guaranteed. It depends on wireless signal strength and availability.
-We stream through different Apps on the iPhone 4 which can stream HD when it is able based on signal strength. Also streaming is not guaranteed because it is through 3rd party applications. (though we do have 3 back up app options)
-We have a special tri-pod for the iPhone 4 and it stays stationary.
-We run the moving cameras, the stream is stationary; placed as close as allowed and cannot zoom and move.
-We do not set up wireless networks normally. If need be, it will be at extra charge.
